Welcome to The Five Islands Academy. We serve the island communities of Bryher, St Agnes, St Martin's, St Mary's and Tresco, educating students from 3-16. We have small primary bases on St Agnes, St Martin's and Tresco and a large base known as Carn Gwaval, located on St Mary's, for both primary and secondary students. Class sizes are small, particularly in secondary, and the pastoral provision is exceptional.
2018 saw record examination results and progress for our secondary students - our Progress 8 score is 0.86, placing us "well above average" in the performance tables, with English Literature, Mathematics, English Language, Combined Science, Engineering and Design Technology results in the top 5% of the country. Our primary students performed extremely well in Key Stage 1 and we improved progress significantly in Key Stage 2, so that we are now "average" in all measures.
Having been placed in special measures in September 2016, the academy has undergone significant changes and has transformed the provision for our students. Our pioneering work in developing a conceptual 3-16 curriculum is already transforming teaching and learning and we are making increasingly creative use of our outdoor environment to inspire and engage students. Learning is divided into 4 "quadmesters", each lasting 9 weeks and culminating in a Project Week (secondary) or a Wow Week (primary) where students can work collaboratively to find out more about areas both within and outside the curriculum.
We joined the Leading Edge Academies Partnership on January 1st 2019, which formalised the strong partnerships we already had with Ludgvan School, Mounts Bay Academy and St Hilary School. Please follow links on our website to find out more.
If you would like to know more, or would like to visit us, please contact email@example.com or call 01720 424850. We are particularly keen to develop our strong sporting ethos by playing fixtures against visiting schools, both primary and secondary. Our facilities are outstanding and we will offer you a warm welcome.
