We will leave St Mary’s on the Scillonian on Thursday 28th June. Students will be dismissed from school in the afternoon in order to allow them to get changed and get their things ready. They should make their own way to St Mary’s quay with their luggage for the trip.
We will get into Penzance at around 7pm and a minibus will meet us and take our luggage to Mounts Bay Academy (MBA). Students will walk to the academy, stopping for food en route. They will spend the night at MBA and have breakfast there in the morning. Students will take a packed lunch for the journey and travel by minibus to Bideford the following day and arriving at lunchtime. We will arrange our own activities for the early afternoon before checking in to Beam House at 4pm. Everybody will have dinner together at the centre before starting an evening activity. Other schools will also be staying at the centre whilst we are there and may join us for evening activities.
On Saturday, we will split the year group into three groups. The different groups will do two activities in the morning before having lunch and light activities with staff until 2pm. In the afternoon, groups will do two more activities before having dinner and free time between 5pm and 7pm. At 7pm-9pm there will be evening entertainment. Students will go up to bed at 9pm and from 9pm-11pm the PGL staff will help with quiet and bed time.
Sunday will be the same as Saturday. Activities over these two days will all take place on site and we will not know exactly what each group will be doing until we arrive. However, the activities on offer include climbing, surfing, mountain biking and zip wire to name a few.
On Monday, we will have two more of these activities before taking a packed lunch and catching the minibuses back to MBA. We will have some time in Penzance before walking back to MBA and having pizza in the evening and watching a film. On Tuesday morning, the minibuses will take us to the quay where we will catch the boat back to St Mary’s, arriving into St Mary’s at midday. Parents are welcome to meet children before dropping them back to school for the afternoon.
The cost of this trip is £210. A £25 deposit has been paid already leaving a balance of £185 to pay. This can be paid altogether or in three instalments. £65 to be paid by 19th April and two instalments of £60 to be paid by 24th May and 21st June. We will also send round a consent form for you to fill out and return to us by May half term.
Students are welcome to take pocket money but we would advise that this be around £20 but certainly no more than £50. We would prefer students not to take any mobile phones although some may wish to have electronic equipment with them for the journey. If they do take any items, we will take these in once we arrive at Beam House.
