Year 8 Assessment

You will be assessed using a Foundation Non-Calculator GCSE 9-1 paper, this will contain many of the topics that you have covered in maths so far this year. You have a detailed list of topic areas to focus on for revision and have started to look at this already. Useful websites to support revision would be Hegarty Maths, Maths Watch (login pnumber@fiveislands, password isosceles) and Just Maths (login FiveStudent, password Five).

During assessment week, Year 8 will complete a piece of persuasive writing about the scientific ethics in 'Frankenstein'. All preparation for this will be in class. At home, they will be preparing for their class production of 'Frankenstein', to be performed in Project Week. The students will be bringing home their scripts to practice and learn their lines.

In assessment week, Year 8 will be sitting an exam style question paper based on adaptation and variation of organisms. You will also be creating models of a Jurassic World, incorporating all the understanding gained from this quadmester and presenting the work to your peers. The presentations will be assessed using the 21st Century Skills criteria which we have already used for our Big Picture Project last year. Feel free to bring in any models, posters, lego or old toys to help with the Jurassic scene. Use doddle to browse and revisit past homeworks to support with preparation for this.

You will be assessed by a written question paper on the work covered on weathering, erosion, landforms created by rivers, coastal land forms and management. Revise using exercise books, Doddle and BBC Bitesize.

You will be assessed using a scaffolded exam question which examines the Tudor monarchs and how they changed religion in Britain. Revise using previous lessons notes, homeworks and Doddle.

You will be assessed on your current topic of “Are you connected?”, this will include, talking about internet habits, TV, Film, and books. You will be tested on the four skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking. Use Memrise to help you consolidate your vocabulary.

To prepare you must keep collecting natural forms and you can practice joining methods.

You will be assessed on the keywords related to variations that we have been working on this quadmester and also the five specific ways in which to change a melody (augmentation, diminution, inversion, retrograde and sequence). Think of how you have changed the given melodies when creating your group performances and what specific terminology you have used for this.
