Duke of Edinburgh

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme:

The Five Islands School takes pride in the high percentage take up of this Internationally recognised award for young people. We offer both the Bronze & Silver level Awards.

Award Manager Mike Rigby, a qualified Gold Award Assessor, British Mountain Leader and qualified carnet holder of the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML) coordinates all elements of Scheme for the school. Debbie Rigby, a qualified Gold Award Assessor and trainer assists in the expedition elements of the Awards.

Bronze Expeditions, are undertaken along the beautiful, but challenging Lands End coastal path. Silver Award training expeditions take place within the Dartmoor National Park, with Silver assessment undertaken in the Brecon Beacon National Park.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) was recently endorsed by over 100 top UK employers for equipping young people with work-ready skills such as team working, resilience, communication and drive. So not only is it great fun, the DofE Award also enables young people to showcase these aptitudes when applying for college places, apprenticeships or jobs in the future!

The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh students are once again busy learning the skills of being firefighters with the local brigade. A huge thank you must go to Declan Ridsdale and the crew who put so much energy and time into our young people every year!
