2021: 21 things to celebrate from our FIA year

New Year: a moment to reflect gratefully on all the opportunities we had in 2021 despite its lockdowns and challenges, and to take pride in our school community’s hope, wisdom, dignity, creativity and fun!

 

Eco-Action:

1.     Welcoming Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall to hear our Eco Pledges

2.     Eco Team planting our school orchard and the ‘Biodiverse Buzza Garden’ for the community

3.     FIA young voices being heard worldwide speaking out about climate change: Will, Isla, Henry and Fraser on Sky News, ITV and in the Mirror; alumna Mila featuring alongside David Attenborough on YouTube and projected onto the COP26 Conference Centre!

 

Heritage and Community:

4.     Welcoming the community back to our May Day celebrations

6.     ‘Scilly Stories’ Heritage Project Week: learning traditional skills and crafts

 

Excellence:

7.     Outstanding progress for our Year 11 GCSE students, who showed immense perseverance to exceed their academic goals

8.     Individual sporting successes in regional competition, in cross-country, football, netball and tennis

9.     Our junior gig crews doing brilliantly at the Helston County Championships

 

Exuberance – Performing Arts:

18.  New Primary Geography curriculum engaging with migration, climate change, refugees and global citizenship

 

Relationships and Responsibility:

19.  ‘Ripple Effect’ and ‘Step Up’ Restorative Practice training for students and staff with RJ Working, leading to Year 10’s new Refugee fundraising project (see Just Giving page)

20.  Community Postcard project – free cards to share Hope and Healing in 2021

21.  Raising money for charities including the RNLI, through running the May Day Mile with Stormy Stan
