We are so proud of our Year 11 students for achieving such strong GCSE and vocational Level 2 results today. Where the national headlines are full of the drop in overall pass grades this year following Covid disruption and teacher assessed grades in 2020-21, Five Islands Academy students have succeeded in gaining the highest school GCSE pass rate (including English and Maths) since 2018! In comparison with GCSE figures from across England for 2022, our students have performed significantly above the national average. Their successes include gaining higher than national overall GCSE attainment grades, 'value added' grades, representing the progress our students have been made across their Secondary school journeys in comparison with their national peers, and excellent pass rates at both Grade 4+ (‘standard pass’) and at Grade 5+ (‘strong pass’).
The cohort of 2022 have been on a tough but transformational journey over the last three years, and their academic successes reflect impressive resilience, hard work and determination. Furthermore, they have been so supportive of each other. It was wonderful to welcome them back into school for their results and to see how their inclusive friendships have flourished since returning to school from Covid separation.
Our students are successfully taking up places on a wide range of post-16 courses, including A Levels, T Levels, Diplomas, Apprenticeships and Supported Internships. Science subjects and the Humanities are the most popular A Level choices for the Class of 2022, while vocational options include Marine Engineering, Boat-building, Agriculture, Childcare & Education, and Design, Surveying & Planning. The students’ excellent progress made in all of these subject areas, plus particularly strong results in English, mean that we are confident that they will be able to thrive and enjoy the next stages of their education and training.
Wishing the very best of luck to our Leavers - we hope you will stay in touch and come back to share your future successes with us.
