CORNWALL AND THE ISLES OF SCILLY VIRTUAL SCHOOL GAMES

Welcome to the first virtual school games to be staged here in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Due to the ongoing pandemic we cannot take part in our own sports days, or those of our partner schools for that matter, this year. As one of the highlights of our sporting calendar this is great disappointment to both pupils and staff, so I am delighted to be able to offer an alternative. Following a huge amount of planning and consultation Active Cornwall has launched the CVSG which will take place between June 22 and June 26 2020.

All the details can be accessed by visiting activecornwall.org where rules and regulations can be read and where the activities themselves can be studied and practised ready for the games themselves.

FIA has registered all of our pupils up to and including year 10 and all of the activities can be completed at home. I have registered for the activities under the headings of athletics, gymnastics, football, netball, volleyball, tennis and the 'making up the miles' challenge. Pupils need only perform the activities that they want and, as stated in the rules, they will then earn points for their year group ready for the final reckoning on June 26. More details on how to collect scores will be forwarded when they are published.

There is also a section under the headline 'The Cultural Offer' where pupils can engage in non-physical tasks to gain points for their year group.

I really hope that parents, guardians and carers will encourage their children to participate in as many of the activities as possible, but the focus is firmly on enjoyment.

Please do not hesitate to contact me on martynsonghurst@fiveislands.org if you need any help navigating the site or you would like more information. Any pupils preferring to use Teams please let me know and I will arrange a meeting with a member of the PE staff. It would be great to speak to you again and we would be delighted to hear how you are getting on with the challenges.

Good luck to you all.
