Five Islands Academy Walk to Welcome Refugees

The Secondary school students of the Five Islands Academy in the Isles of Scilly are walking this Wednesday, 16th February 2022, to raise money for their student-led charity: ‘Scilly Welcomes Refugees’.

Five Islands Academy students will be braving the winter weather to walk around the coast of St Mary’s island in solidarity with young people the world over who experience enforced migration and have to flee from war, natural disasters or persecution.

Every student will be carrying a bag packed with meaningful possessions that they might take with them if they had to leave home in a hurry.

The students aim to raise at least £5,000 to offer young Syrian refugees who are resettling in Cornwall a holiday on the Isles of Scilly. They are working with 'Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugee Families' to make this idea a reality.
